Engagement Overview
Tyler Union manufactures waterworks products including ductile iron fittings, joint restraints, and valve boxes. Tactical Edge implemented Amazon Monitron for predictive maintenance, bringing equipment-condition monitoring into the manufacturer's maintenance workflow.
The Challenge
- Give maintenance teams visibility into changing equipment condition.
- Turn condition-monitoring signals into information technicians can use.
- Fit a predictive-maintenance implementation into plant operating practices.
The Approach
- Implement Amazon Monitron for the predictive-maintenance use case.
- Connect equipment-condition monitoring with the maintenance team's operating workflow.
- Make the monitoring approach usable alongside technicians' existing inspection and maintenance practices.
What Changed
The engagement put an Amazon Monitron predictive-maintenance implementation in place for Tyler Union, giving the maintenance workflow a foundation in equipment-condition data.
Build on This with AWS
For organizations facing similar challenges, Tactical Edge can connect Amazon Bedrock and AgentCore to turn trusted information into useful answers and actions.
A maintenance assistant could combine an equipment-condition alert with the asset's service history and approved procedures, explain the evidence, and prepare a work-order recommendation for a technician. Amazon Monitron is closed to new customers; new implementations use a separately assessed path with currently available industrial sensors, AWS IoT services, and predictive models. Bedrock adds explanations and workflow assistance alongside those models.
| Service | How it helps |
|---|---|
| Amazon Bedrock | Explain condition alerts in the context of asset history and draft maintenance recommendations for review. |
| Bedrock Knowledge Bases | Retrieve approved asset records, maintenance history, manuals, and troubleshooting procedures. |
| AgentCore Runtime and Gateway | Read asset and maintenance-system records and prepare a proposed work order through approved APIs. |
| AWS workflow services | For new designs, evaluate AWS IoT Core for telemetry, SageMaker AI for predictive models, and Lambda or Step Functions for maintenance-system integrations. |
AgentCore connects agents to approved application tools and provides execution traces. Bedrock Knowledge Bases grounds answers in permitted source material, while Guardrails adds content and sensitive-information checks.
Tactical Edge maps these capabilities to the team's access rules, review steps, and operating requirements.
Built for Daily Operations
Maintenance teams retain control over inspections, work orders, and equipment decisions. Generated explanations support technicians; predictive models and sensor evidence provide the equipment-condition signals.
Evaluate alert relevance, false alarms, maintenance follow-through, time to a reviewed action, and observed downtime against the plant's baseline. The original implementation used Monitron; new-project service selection is assessed separately.
